Family Owned and Operated

Munster is one of the most established towns we serve. Most of it was built in the decades after World War II, the trees have had sixty years to grow, and many homes are on their third roof. Pursuit Exteriors is the family owned, Owens Corning Preferred Contractor that Munster homeowners call for roof replacement, repair, and storm damage, from Ridge Road to the Little Calumet.

What Munster Roofs Deal With

The median Munster home dates to 1973, and most of the town went up in the postwar decades. That makes Munster a town of third roofs. The original went on with the house, a replacement followed in the 80s or 90s, and that replacement is now past twenty years old itself. Every layer of that history matters when the next roof goes on: what is under there, what shape the decking is in, and whether the attic ever got modern ventilation.

Sixty years of tree growth is the other defining feature. Munster's mature canopy shades roofs, which keeps moisture on shingles and feeds moss and algae, and it drops limbs in every serious windstorm. Homes under big trees also fight gutters full of debris, which backs water up under the shingle edge and feeds ice dams in winter.

Storms do the rest. Hail moves through Lake County most summers, and this year's storm season was one of the worst Northwest Indiana has seen. Hail damage rarely shows from the street, but it bruises shingles and takes years off their life.

If your roof went on in the 1990s or early 2000s, it is in the window where age and storm damage start compounding. A free inspection tells you where it stands.

Common Roofing Problems We See in Munster Homes

  • Third-generation roofs on 1950s to 70s homes reaching replacement age again
  • Moss and algae on roofs shaded by the mature tree canopy
  • Limb and branch damage after wind storms
  • Low-slope sections over mid-century additions wearing faster than the main roof
  • Ice dams fed by aging attic insulation and clogged gutters
  • Hail bruising from summer storms that does not show from the street

Roof Repair or Roof Replacement? Here's How We Decide.

One thing we never do is recommend a new roof when your current one has life left. If damage is limited to one area, repair is usually the answer. When damage is widespread or the roof is at the end of its lifespan, replacement protects your investment better than chasing leaks.

In Munster the usual question is whether a twenty-plus-year-old replacement roof has another storm in it. If wear is widespread, replacement beats chasing leaks. If a storm took out one slope or a tree dropped a limb through the shingles, a repair or an insurance claim usually makes more sense. And on the low-slope sections common over mid-century additions and porches, the right fix is often a different material, not another round of shingles. We inspect first and tell you which one you actually need.

Signs Your Munster Roof May Be Ready for Replacement

Shingles are Curling, Cracked or Missing.

  • Asphalt shingles are designed to protect your home, but over time they can break down from UV rays, ice dams, and high winds. If you see granule loss, curling edges, or bare spots, your roof may be at risk. Give us a call today for a free inspection!

Your Roof is Over 20 Years Old

  • Most roofing materials have a lifespan of 20–25 years. If your home in Munsterwas built in the early 2000s or earlier, it may be time to consider a full replacement — especially if repairs are becoming more frequent. Give us a call today for a free inspection!

Interior Leaks and Water Stains

  • Moisture coming through your ceiling, attic, or around roof penetrations (like chimneys or vents) is a clear sign the roof system has failed. Don’t wait until the damage spreads even small leaks can lead to mold and insulation issues.

Moss, Algae or Black Streaks

  • These signs of excess moisture are common in shaded areas of Munster homes. They’re not just unsightly — they can trap water and deteriorate your shingles faster than you might expect.

Frequently Asked Questions about Roof Installation

We find many of our clients have similar questions when it comes to roof installation so we have put together a list of commonly asked questions as a reference.

How do I know if I need a new roof on my home?

Look for curling or missing shingles, granules collecting in gutters, stains on interior ceilings, or a roof past 20 years old. The only way to know for sure is an inspection, and ours are free.

How much does a new roof cost?

It depends on the size of your roof, the material you choose, and the condition of the decking underneath. That is why we give written, itemized estimates instead of ballpark numbers. The estimate is free and comes with no pressure.

Will my homeowner's insurance cover roof replacement?

If the damage came from a storm, wind, or hail, often yes. Our inspection documents what the adjuster needs to see, and we can meet the adjuster at your home. Age and normal wear are not covered.

How long will my new roof last?

Modern architectural shingles installed correctly are rated for 30 to 50 years depending on the product line. Ventilation and installation quality matter as much as the shingle, which is why manufacturer certification counts.

Our home was built in the 1960s. Is there anything special about reroofing it?

Usually, yes. A 1960s Munster home has been roofed at least twice, and each round left something behind: layered shingles, patched decking, or ventilation that was never brought up to modern standards. Mid-century homes also often have low-slope sections over additions and porches that need different material than the main roof. We check all of it during the inspection so the estimate reflects the real job.

Do the big trees in Munster actually cause roof damage?

They do, three ways. Limbs come down in wind storms and puncture or scrape shingles. Shade keeps roofs damp, which feeds the moss and black algae streaks you see around town. And leaves fill gutters, which backs water up under shingle edges and feeds ice dams in winter. Trimming back overhangs and keeping gutters clear buys a roof years.
